Putting In A New Sink
Replacing a sink is a relatively simple plumbing project that can be completed in a few hours. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can easily replace your old sink with a new one.
Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Materials
Before you begin, you will need to gather the following tools and materials:
- New sink
- Sink strainer
- Faucet
- Pliers
- Wrench
- Screwdriver
- Plumber's putty
- Caulk
Step 2: Remove the Old Sink
Turn off the water supply to the sink. Disconnect the water lines from the faucet and the drain line from the sink. Use a screwdriver to remove the mounting screws that hold the sink in place. Carefully lift the sink out of the countertop.
Step 3: Prepare the New Sink
Apply a bead of plumber's putty to the rim of the new sink. This will help to create a watertight seal between the sink and the countertop. Place the new sink in the countertop and press down firmly to seat the putty.
Step 4: Install the Faucet
Insert the faucet into the holes in the sink. Secure the faucet with the mounting nuts. Connect the water lines to the faucet.
Step 5: Connect the Drain
Insert the sink strainer into the drain hole in the sink. Secure the strainer with the mounting nut. Connect the drain line to the strainer.
Step 6: Caulk the Sink
Apply a bead of caulk around the edge of the sink where it meets the countertop. This will help to prevent water from leaking between the sink and the countertop.
Step 7: Turn on the Water Supply
Turn on the water supply to the sink. Check for leaks around the faucet, the drain, and the caulk. If you find any leaks, tighten the connections or apply more caulk as needed.
Congratulations! You have now successfully replaced your old sink with a new one.
