Kitchen Sink Faucet Head Replacement
Your kitchen sink faucet is one of the most used fixtures in your home. Over time, it can start to show its age. The finish may become worn, the handles may become loose, or the faucet may start to leak. If your faucet is in need of repair, you may be wondering if you need to replace the entire fixture or if you can simply replace the faucet head.
In most cases, you can replace the faucet head without having to replace the entire fixture. This is a relatively easy and inexpensive repair that you can do yourself in a few hours.
To replace the faucet head, you will need the following tools:
- Adjustable wrench
- Phillips head screwdriver
- New faucet head
Once you have gathered your tools, follow these steps to replace the faucet head:
- Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
- Open the faucet to release any remaining water.
- Locate the set screw on the underside of the faucet handle.
- Use the Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the set screw.
- Remove the handle.
- Unscrew the old faucet head by turning it counterclockwise.
- Apply a thin bead of plumber's putty to the threads of the new faucet head.
- Screw the new faucet head onto the faucet body.
- Tighten the set screw on the underside of the faucet handle.
- Turn on the water supply to the faucet.
- Check for leaks.
If you are replacing the faucet head on a single-handle faucet, you will need to remove the cartridge instead of the handle. The cartridge is located inside the faucet body. To remove the cartridge, you will need to use an adjustable wrench to loosen the retaining nut. Once the retaining nut is loose, you can pull the cartridge out of the faucet body.
To install the new cartridge, simply insert it into the faucet body and tighten the retaining nut. Then, reattach the faucet handle and turn on the water supply to the faucet.
Replacing the faucet head is a relatively easy and inexpensive repair that you can do yourself in a few hours. By following these steps, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber.
