Installing Drain In Bathroom Sink

Installing a drain in a bathroom sink is a relatively simple plumbing task that can be completed in a few hours. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can ensure that the drain is installed correctly and will not leak.

Materials Needed:

New drain assembly
Plumber's putty
Adjustable wrench
Putty knife
Flashlight

Instructions:

1. Turn off the water supply to the sink. Locate the water supply valves beneath the sink and turn them clockwise to shut off the water.

2. Remove the old drain assembly. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the drain assembly in place. Once the nuts are loose, carefully remove the old drain assembly.

3. Clean the drain hole. Use a putty knife to remove any old plumber's putty or debris from the drain hole. The drain hole should be clean and free of any obstructions.

4. Apply plumber's putty to the new drain assembly. Roll a rope of plumber's putty between your fingers and apply it to the underside of the new drain assembly. The putty should be applied in a continuous bead around the edge of the assembly.

5. Insert the new drain assembly into the drain hole. Carefully insert the new drain assembly into the drain hole and align the drain flange with the drain hole.

6. Tighten the nuts. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts that hold the drain assembly in place. Do not overtighten the nuts, as this could damage the assembly.

7. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. Turn on the water supply valves beneath the sink and allow the water to run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks around the drain assembly.

8. Tighten the nuts further if necessary. If you notice any leaks, use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts further. Be careful not to overtighten the nuts, as this could damage the assembly.

Once the drain assembly is installed and there are no leaks, you can reattach the pop-up drain stopper and finish by cleaning up the area.
