How To Sink Wash Clothes

Sinking laundry is not a new concept. Your grandmother probably did it, and her grandmother before her. Sinking laundry is a simple, no-fuss way to wash delicate items, small loads, and even cloth diapers. You can sink wash just about anything that doesn't require heavy agitation, such as jeans or towels.

To sink wash clothes, you'll need a sink, a bucket, or a large bowl, laundry detergent, and water. You can also add a fabric softener if you like. Start by filling your sink with cold water. Add 1/2 to 1 capful of laundry detergent, depending on the size of your load. Stir the water until the detergent is dissolved.

Add your clothes to the sink and swish them around to make sure they're fully submerged. If you're washing delicate items, be sure to handle them gently. Let the clothes soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight. The longer they soak, the better the detergent will have a chance to work.

Once the clothes have soaked, drain the water from the sink. Fill the sink with clean water and swish the clothes around to rinse them. Drain the water and repeat the rinsing process until the water runs clear. If you're using a bucket or bowl, you can simply pour the water out and refill it with clean water.

Once the clothes are rinsed, it's time to wring them out. Be careful not to wring them too tightly, as this can damage the fabric. If you're worried about damaging the fabric, you can roll the clothes in a towel to remove the excess water.

Once the clothes are wrung out, hang them to dry. You can hang them on a clothesline, a drying rack, or even on the back of a chair. If you're drying the clothes indoors, be sure to open a window or door to allow for ventilation.
