How To Fix Sink Food Disposal

A food disposal is a convenient way to get rid of food scraps, but it can be frustrating when it stops working. If your food disposal is not working, there are a few things you can do to try to fix it.

First, check to see if the disposal is getting power. Make sure that the power cord is plugged in and that the circuit breaker or fuse is not tripped. If the disposal is getting power, then the next step is to reset it.

To reset the disposal, first turn off the power. Then, use a wrench to turn the flywheel on the bottom of the disposal clockwise until it spins freely. Once the flywheel is spinning freely, turn the power back on and try to use the disposal.

If resetting the disposal does not work, then the next step is to check the drain line. The drain line is the hose that connects the disposal to the sink drain. If the drain line is clogged, it can prevent the disposal from draining properly.

To clean the drain line, first disconnect it from the disposal. Then, use a drain snake or a wet/dry vacuum to clear the clog. Once the drain line is clear, reconnect it to the disposal and try to use the disposal again.

If the disposal is still not working, then the next step is to check the motor. The motor is the part of the disposal that powers the flywheel. If the motor is burned out, then the disposal will not be able to operate.

To check the motor, first disconnect the power to the disposal. Then, use a multimeter to test the continuity of the motor. If the motor is burned out, then you will need to replace it.
