Double Sink Plumbing With Garbage Disposal

Double sinks are a great way to add convenience and functionality to your kitchen. They allow you to wash dishes, prep food, and clean up messes all at the same time. If you're considering adding a double sink to your kitchen, you'll need to make sure it's properly plumbed. Here's a step-by-step guide to plumbing a double sink with a garbage disposal:

Step 1: Gather your materials

Before you start, you'll need to gather all of the materials you'll need. These include:

  • Two sinks
  • A garbage disposal
  • A P-trap
  • Supply lines
  • Drain lines
  • A wrench
  • A screwdriver
  • Plumber's putty
  • Teflon tape

Step 2: Install the sinks

The first step is to install the sinks. Start by placing the sinks in the desired location. Then, trace the outline of the sinks onto the countertop. Cut out the holes for the sinks using a jigsaw. Once the holes are cut, insert the sinks and secure them with plumber's putty.

Step 3: Connect the garbage disposal

Once the sinks are installed, it's time to connect the garbage disposal. Start by attaching the disposal to the sink flange. Then, connect the drain line from the disposal to the P-trap. Finally, connect the supply lines from the disposal to the water supply.

Step 4: Connect the P-trap

The P-trap is a U-shaped pipe that helps to prevent sewer gases from entering the kitchen. To connect the P-trap, simply insert the ends of the P-trap into the drain lines from the sinks and the garbage disposal. Then, tighten the nuts on the P-trap to secure it.

Step 5: Connect the drain lines

Once the P-trap is installed, it's time to connect the drain lines. Start by connecting the drain line from the P-trap to the main drain line. Then, connect the drain line from the garbage disposal to the main drain line. Make sure all of the connections are tight to prevent leaks.

Step 6: Test the plumbing

Once the plumbing is complete, it's time to test it. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the connections until they stop.

Step 7: Finish the installation

Once the plumbing is tested and leak-free, you can finish the installation. Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the edges of the sinks to seal them. Then, insert the drain stoppers and turn on the water to make sure everything is working properly.
