How to Deep Clean a Stainless Steel Sink

Stainless steel sinks are a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms because they are durable and easy to clean. However, over time, they can become stained and scratched, making them look dull and unhygienic. A deep clean can restore your stainless steel sink to its original shine and luster.

Materials you will need:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Soft cloths or sponges
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Fine-grit sandpaper (optional)
  • Stainless steel cleaner (optional)

Steps:

1.

Clear the sink

Remove all dishes, utensils, and other items from the sink. Wipe down the sink with a damp cloth to remove any loose dirt or debris.

2.

Make a baking soda paste

In a small bowl, mix equal parts baking soda and water to form a thick paste. Apply the paste to the entire surface of the sink, including the sides and bottom. Allow the paste to sit for 15-20 minutes.

3.

Scrub the sink

Using a soft cloth or sponge, scrub the sink in circular motions. Be sure to apply gentle pressure so as not to scratch the surface. Rinse the sink thoroughly with warm water.

4.

Apply white vinegar

Pour white vinegar into the sink and let it sit for 10 minutes. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant that will help to kill bacteria and remove stains. Rinse the sink thoroughly with warm water.

5.

Wash with dish soap

Apply a small amount of dish soap to the sink and wash it with a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse the sink thoroughly with warm water.

6.

Dry the sink

Use a clean microfiber cloth to dry the sink completely. This will help to prevent water spots from forming.

7.

Remove scratches (optional)

If the sink has any scratches, you can remove them using fine-grit sandpaper. Wet the sandpaper and rub it gently over the scratches in a circular motion. Rinse the sink thoroughly with warm water and dry it completely.

8.

Apply stainless steel cleaner (optional)

If desired, you can apply a stainless steel cleaner to the sink to give it a polished finish. Follow the instructions on the product label.

Tips:

  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on stainless steel sinks, as they can damage the finish.
  • Wipe down the sink regularly with a soft cloth to prevent stains and scratches.
  • If the sink is heavily stained, you may need to repeat the deep cleaning process multiple times.
