Delta Bathroom Sink Faucet Cartridge Replacement

Replacing a Delta bathroom sink faucet cartridge is a relatively simple task that can be completed in under an hour. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber.

Tools and Materials Needed

  • Replacement Delta faucet cartridge
  • Adjustable wrench or Allen wrench
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Paper towels or rags

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Shut Off the Water Supply

Locate the water supply valves under the sink and turn them clockwise to shut off the water supply to the faucet.

2. Remove the Handle

Use a screwdriver to remove the screw that secures the handle to the faucet body. Pull the handle straight up to remove it.

3. Remove the Escutcheon

Beneath the handle, there will be an escutcheon (trim plate) covering the base of the faucet body. Use a wrench or Allen wrench to loosen the nut that secures the escutcheon and remove it.

4. Remove the Cartridge Retainer

Use a pair of pliers or an adjustable wrench to remove the cartridge retainer nut. It is usually located directly underneath the escutcheon.

5. Remove the Old Cartridge

Insert a flashlight into the faucet body to locate the cartridge. Grip the cartridge with pliers and pull it straight out.

6. Insert the New Cartridge

Align the new cartridge with the faucet body and insert it straight in. Make sure the O-rings are properly seated.

7. Reinsert the Cartridge Retainer

Screw the cartridge retainer nut back onto the faucet body and tighten it by hand.

8. Reattach the Escutcheon

Place the escutcheon over the faucet body and tighten the nut that secures it.

9. Reattach the Handle

Slide the handle back onto the faucet body and secure it with the screw.

10. Turn On the Water Supply

Slowly turn on the water supply valves under the sink to allow water to flow through the faucet. Check for any leaks and tighten any loose connections as needed.

Tips

  • If the old cartridge is stuck, you may need to use a strap wrench or penetrating oil to loosen it.
  • Be careful not to overtighten any of the nuts or bolts.
  • If you are still experiencing problems after replacing the cartridge, there may be an underlying issue with the faucet or plumbing system. In this case, it is recommended to contact a licensed plumber.
