Change Water Filter Under Sink

Changing the water filter under the sink is a simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. By following these steps, you can ensure that your water filter is working properly and that you are drinking clean, healthy water.

Materials You Will Need:

  • New water filter
  • Wrench
  • Bucket or bowl
  • Paper towels

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Turn off the water supply to the filter. There should be a small shut-off valve located near the filter. Turn the valve clockwise to close it.

2. Open the faucet to release any remaining water pressure. This will help prevent water from leaking when you remove the filter.

3. Use a wrench to loosen the filter housing. Most filter housings are made of plastic and can be loosened by hand, but if necessary, you can use a wrench to provide extra leverage.

4. Remove the old filter. Once the housing is loose, you can remove the old filter. Be careful not to spill any water.

5. Clean the filter housing. Wipe down the inside of the filter housing with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove any dirt or debris.

6. Insert the new filter. Insert the new filter into the housing and tighten the housing by hand. You should not need to use a wrench to tighten the housing.

7. Turn on the water supply to the filter. Slowly turn on the shut-off valve to allow water to flow into the filter. Check for leaks around the housing.

8. Flush the filter. Run water through the filter for several minutes to flush out any air or impurities. You may notice some black or brown water coming out of the faucet at first. This is normal and will clear up after a few minutes.

That's it! You have now successfully changed the water filter under your sink. Remember to change the filter every 6-12 months, or more often if you have hard water or a lot of sediment in your water.

Additional Tips:

  • If you have a water filter that is connected to your refrigerator, you will need to follow the manufacturer's instructions for changing the filter.
  • Some water filters have a built-in indicator that will let you know when it is time to change the filter.
  • If you are not comfortable changing the water filter yourself, you can call a plumber to do it for you.
