Sink Drain How To Install

Tools and Materials

Before you begin, gather the following tools and materials:

New sink drain
Adjustable wrench
Plumber's putty
Flashlight (optional)

Step 1: Remove the Old Drain

Start by placing a bucket or bowl beneath the sink to catch any water that may leak out. Then, use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that are holding the old drain in place. Once the nuts are loose, you should be able to pull the old drain out of the sink.

Step 2: Clean the Drain Hole

Once the old drain is removed, take a moment to clean the drain hole. Remove any debris or old plumber's putty that may be present. You can use a flashlight to get a better view of the drain hole.

Step 3: Apply Plumber's Putty

Take a small piece of plumber's putty and roll it into a rope. Then, place the rope of plumber's putty around the base of the new drain. The plumber's putty will help to create a watertight seal between the drain and the sink.

Step 4: Insert the New Drain

Insert the new drain into the drain hole. Make sure that the plumber's putty is evenly distributed around the base of the drain. Then, tighten the nuts that are holding the drain in place. You can use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts.
